Electroless Nickel Coatings Can Be Found Everywhere

By Anna Jones

It is simply wonderful to see how far things have progressed over the last few years. These days it is awesome to take note of how electroless nickel coatings have made so many things very attractive and good looking. The idea of old items being refurbished and then recoated again is awesome, as one is able to make use of things that are still in good condition but just need a bit of sprucing up. When it comes to any kind of coasting, it must be kept in mind that there are many techniques that can be used and that some may be more expensive than others.

Every day, people are subjected to things that are coasted in order to do more than one thing. Plating is used in order to make the object more attractive and also protect it from the wear and tear of daily usage. Fortunately this process is popular and is used in the industry for many reasons.

Durability is the name of the game, and most people want things to be long lasting. For most items this is not a problem as they are able to be treated and coated in order for them to look good and stay as durable as possible. Sometimes this can be costly, but in most cases will prove to be highly beneficial in the long run.

This process relies on the presence of a reducing agent. Therefore it is not the same as electroplating. The reason for this is because no electric current runs through the item. This method of coating an item is also free from flux-density. It can be used on non-conductive surfaces as it results in an even deposit.

Whe such coating takes place there are various things that need to be done prior to the finished result. The most important thing to remember is that the item needs to be as clean as possible. Rust and other dirt must be removed from the item in order for the coating to stay.

Once the plating has taken place, it is necessary to make use of an anti-oxidant and even a tarnish prevention product to lengthen the lifespan of the item. One must also keep in mind that this method of coating may be a little less expensive as it makes no use of electricity. There are no electric currents used in this method.

The advantages of this method of coating are that it does not require any kind of electrical power. It also provides a perfect finished result with a great all over finish. There are no sophisticated racks or jigs needed for this process. There is also flexibility in the plating thickness and volume. The coating process can also plate recesses and solve blind holes by virtue of a fairly stable thickness.

Coating of this kind also allow old items to be renewed and result in looking brand new and ready for another couple of years use. Although it can be used for almost any material, there will still be some that this kind of coating is not suited for perfectly. It is often used in the automotive industry and is very wear resistant.
