Why There Is A Need To Support Homless Veterans

By Frances Butler

It is easy to overlook the harsh lives of soldiers both when they are in the service and when they leave military. Many retired soldiers are living below the poverty line, and some of them are on the streets. It is vital to note that vets have seen many terrifying things that make it impossible for him or her to cope with the society. Here are reasons to support homless veterans.

They need help: as noted above, soldiers face horrific situations when in the service that makes their lives never come to be the same again. Some have escaped death many times to the extent of losing the meaning of life. When they return to the society; every individual has an obligation to make sure that they live well with them and help them when need be.

Also, it is vital that people know that these vets are great men who sacrificed a great deal for the love of their country. Living them to suffer demoralizes other young people who might be willing to join the military as well. Therefore, these brave men and women should be given the respect. Also, they should be given both moral and material support by every individual in the society.

To reduce crime rate: you need to know that a soldier can adapt to any situation and it even more so when they are trying to survive. When an ex-soldier becomes desperate, he or she might opt to engage in theft and robbery to make ends meet. There is nothing worse than a trained soldier becoming criminal since it will be too hard to deal with him or her. There have been cases where retired soldiers ended up in jails.

A soldier is always willing to do good to the people. More so, they are good because they seek to protect lives. When a soldier becomes desperate, the only way to pay back or to appreciate them is by helping them build a stable home, or building them houses.

Want people to not know is that many soldiers who leave the army when they have not served for some years are not willing to retire. Some of them have injuries that cannot allow them to continue serving as a soldier. The bad thing is, instead of the government finding something for these people to do, some of them end up getting hopeless, and they become beggars and sometimes criminals.

They deserve to be supported: vets worked for the government, and they used to go for wars whenever the government sent them. The government, therefore, needs to make sure that every vet receives the pension and other retiree benefits that they deserve. Citizens also, need to lend a hand to make sure that vets have decent lives.

Therefore, protecting vets in not the responsibility of the government only. Every person should try to help vets regardless of the state they come from. They deserve access to job opportunities and acceptance in a society. Ensure you engage in all support activities.
