By Roger Sullivan

People bond more around food, especially around delicious food. A common sight in the neighborhood, on weekends, is families on their back yards setting tables, and grills in order for them to have quality time with each other. Family members will remember the stories, laughter and the meals that were share during the party. However, if the meal being served does not agree with your palate, one would have bad memories instead of good. Especially on grilling, it is inevitable to have burnt meats or not juicy ones. Fortunately, there are many approaches in grilling, bbq basting sauce is one of the approach that can ensure good memories.

Basting is cooking technique that helps in keeping the meats moist. This technique can also add more flavor to the meats. The guests will surely praise the juiciness of the meats being served.

The tool for the technique mentioned above is a basting mop. However, in every method, the mop is not always used. If the family is grilling with a wood burning pit, this tool is to be used, but first making sure that the meat is dried first before application of more amount of sauce. This tool shall be also used in charcoal grilling, but the application is only when the cook is adding charcoal or wood.

Another grilling method is through the usage of a water smoker. This cooker uses water to steam the meats, hence, the name, and since it uses vapor, basting the meats is not necessary since the vapor will moisten the food. The usage of a basting mop when cooks use wood ovens to grill is also not necessary, since the oven is tightly sealed and will retain an ample amount of moisture. Also, using electric grills in barbecuing should not require the chef to baste the meat.

The man or woman assigned on the grill has a lot of options in doing the barbecue. People can choose the direct heat technique, which is the most basic and is commonly used. The food is cooked directly over the heart, and the cook is to sear the meat enabling the infusion of flavors.

Another one is smoking. This is called the low and slow approach. It can be only done outdoors, and involves grilling the food at a low temperature, closed chamber, and for a long period, one should get up early if one is smoking meat to avoid the guests leaving hungry.

A rotisserie grilling is an additional barbecue art that is gaining popularity over time. It is also named as spit roasting. The meat is skewered in a metal stick that is connected to a motorized rotor which allows the meat to rotate inside the grill equipment.

Other than the improvement gained from applying basting sauce on the meat, using wood can also make the meal more flavorful. One can choose one from an array of woods, like Almond wood or Apple wood, and smoking woods like Hickory and Mesquite. The firewood will produce smoke that will bring aromatic flavors to the meat.

Being the person assigned on barbecuing can be a tough job. However, with the knowledge of the different methods, usage of wood, and especially, knowing the best recipe of basting sauce and the proper application of it, that tough job can be mastered. Produce more beautiful memories by serving juicy and delicious food on the table, and the troubles in life will be kept at bay.
