Here Is Information On C Arm X Ray

Radiology is a special field within the profession of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and detection of medical condition in the body using imaging technologies. Medical practitioners who specialize in this field are referred to as radiologists. Pistron Emission Tomography (PET), ultrasound, x-ray, CT scan, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are used by radiologists as some of the imaging techniques in common use today. The c arm is an example of some of the various pieces of equipment used in this field. This is what C arm x ray are is about.

A c arm machine is based on x-ray technology. It is used in minimally invasive surgery and in diagnostic imaging. The system is used in visualizing several body processes, including cardiac surgery, gastroenterology, and thoracic/abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. Other procedures it finds use in include percutaneous replacements, neuro simulation, neurology procedures, orthopedics and vascular surgery among others.

These devices are manufactured by a handful of companies in the United States and around the world too. Some of the manufacturers in the United States are Ziehm Imaging, Siemens, Philips, and GE Healthcare/OEC. Outside the United States, some of the notable manufacturers are Shimadzu, Hitachi, Orthoscan, and Hologic. The US manufacturers are also global market leaders as well as leaders in specific parts of the world such as Europe.

Medical imaging as a field has been undergoing a lot of advancements in technology. Newer and superior technology has been used to replace some old components that were in use in some devices. For example, image processing in newer models has been enhanced by the inclusion of better software for image processing and 3D navigation aids. The image quality has been increased by these advancements on a significant scale.

With better technology, the dose of radiation that is delivered to the patient has also been reduced significantly over the years. X-ray radiation can be very harmful to the human body if one is exposed to large doses. Similarly, they can be very harmful if one is exposed to them for an extended period of time. Some of the bad effects that the rays cause include cancer. To ensure safety, exposure is kept to minimum dose and number of times.

Image intensifiers were dominant in old models of c arms. Nevertheless, with the invention of flat-panel technology, that changed. Flat-panel systems are considered to be much better since they produce images of better quality. They can also be made in small sizes hence they can take less physical space in the operation room. In flat-panel systems, the field of view is normally larger than in image intensifiers.

Ziehm Imaging is credited with inventing flat-panel systems when it released its Vision FD flat-panel mobile c arm. Philips would later in 2009 follow suit by releasing its Veradius system. At the moment, most manufacturers of these systems use flat-panel technology. The many advantages that are associated with flat-panel technology make it important to have in an operating room.

C arms exist in different configurations and sizes. Some are designed to be mobile while others are installed permanently in the OR. To increase accessibility, help reduce cost, and enhance mobility, several manufacturers have produced a variety of mini versions of the systems
