Different Shapes Benefit From Clothing Alterations

By Frank Wood

When clothes do not fit properly, it can be embarrassing for the person wearing them. Often people think if they managed to get something on and fastened properly that it must fit well enough to wear outside. This holds especially true for those who believe they are locked into a single size number. The best remedy for ill fitting apparel is to hire someone that is an expert in clothing alterations.

This holds especially true for those who have to present a certain image as an employee or representative of a particular industry. Those who are considered an expert or guru in their field usually want to make a positive presentation. Wearing clothes that sag or are too tight is not a good way to draw people in at first sight.

For those who have an unusual shape or have a hard time finding the right sizes in most clothing stores, looking at an outfit from different angles helps tremendously. Even better is an extra set of eyes that do not belong to a sales clerk. Those who work in retail may not see clothing the same way as a professional tailor would.

Even small details, like shirt sleeves that are too long or short, can work against a person looking to build a solid image of themselves. In many cases, it does not matter how much knowledge a person has upon first sight. Unfortunately, many of us are judged by first impressions and the person on display often has to put in work to be taken seriously.

Most alteration specialists can reconstruct clothes so that problem areas are concealed. Making an adjustment in the waistband or the seat can make pants have a natural flow with the body when in moderate activity. In other words, there should be no pulling of the pants leg or constant adjusting after going up a flight of stairs.

One reason to not rely on salespeople is that some may say that spandex undergarments will fix it. While this may be true in some cases, it is not the best advice for everyone. Alterations specialists not only have a neutral eye but normally have enough mirrors for clients to see themselves from every angle.

This is another group that may feel that tight bottoms are great for showing off assets. Pants and skirts that are too snug around the hips not only can get the wearer unwanted attention, these can be embarrassing. Anyone who wants to get ahead in their desired field should first desire to be taken seriously. However, it starts with the right apparel and attitude.

Maintaining a healthy shape can be a challenge for anyone but often the change is necessary. The only thing is that it can be hard to decide which pieces of clothing are worth holding onto. Tailors can also repurpose items so they can serve another function. For instance, a pencil skirt that is now too tight can be converted into a flared skirt with an elasticized waistband. This is ideal for women who have put on weight or decided that they no longer want to wear a straight style skirt.
