All You Need To Know About TSA Rules As A Traveler

By Mary Cook

Many at times, you may find yourself opting to fly to a destination as opposed to driving, even when the destination is not that far off. With the numerous stringent regulations surrounding air travel, it is always advisable to stay abreast of the latest TSA rules. If you comply, you will definitely be guaranteed a smooth travel experience. Here are the regulations that you should always remember before booking your ticket.

First on the line is the liquids rule. As it happens, there are certain liquids that are not permitted in flight. Even then, those that are permitted still have to meet specific standards with regards to quantity. All liquids must be placed within the confines of a quartz sized bag. Among the permitted liquids are aerosols, pastes, gels and creams. At this point, it is important to note that they should all be personal care items or toiletries. Furthermore, they should be no more than 100 milliliters in capacity per item.

Prohibited items can be classified in various categories depending on their nature. For instance, flammable items and explosives are always given special attention. Such items are never permissible for civilian transportation. The aim here is to prevent dangerous criminals from using them while on board.

They include all aerosols with the exception of personal care products, blasting caps, chlorine, dynamite, fireworks, fuels, liquid bleach, safety matches and spray paint. There are several other items covered in length on the TSA website. Also barred from possession during travel is any replica of an explosive device.

Other categories issue guidelines on traveling with foods, tools, sharp objects and firearms. If you own a gun and want to pack it for your travel, the approval process will require that you undergo a background check besides producing its license. Furthermore, the gun will be safely kept out of reach by you or any other unauthorized person while in transit using a concealment box. This means you can only get it once you land and are out of the protected area of the airport.

The screening process is also an important part of the regulations laid down by the safety authority. All travelers must undergo screening prior to boarding the airplane. This also includes those who are pregnant. To quell any fears posed by pregnant women, travelers are always advised that the machines used in the screening procedure are safe for all.

The purpose of screening is to identify any items that may be prohibited for the safety of all travelers. These days, this process has been made even simpler thanks to the advent of advanced imaging technology. This technology technically eliminates the need for physical searching. Sensors can detect the anything concealed in the human body and in luggage.

If necessary, the law permits customs and security agents to open bags and suitcases that they deem suspicious. To aid in this, they usually use approved tools to pick locks. These tools have been tested and proven to lower the risk of damage on bags. Even so, it is important to remember that the authority is not liable for damages in the event where there is a genuine security threat.
