Follow Tsa Rules To Expedite Travel

By Donald Green

The Transportation Security Administration, TSA, has very strict guidelines that must be followed if you want to get through check in at the airport with as little interruption as possible. They have these regulations for good reasons. Most of us have seen the news reports about the violence that sometimes occurs in mid-flight. Nobody wants to be on a plane when something like that happens. That is why it is so important to follow tsa rules exactly.

Frequent fliers know what to expect and usually have everything ready for the inspector before they even get to the front of the line. People who are unaccustomed to flying often are unsure about what they are supposed to do and what is permitted to take with them. There are some rules that are simply common sense, and others that can be confusing. One thing you need to know is that anyone over eighteen must have some kind of identification with them at all times.

Ever since the shoe bomber boarded a plane, passengers have been required to remove their shoes and put them into the bins that go through the scanners. Most opt to go to the airport in footwear that is easily taken off and put back on. A lot of people will add socks to their outfits to avoid having to put their bare feet on the airport's bare floor.

You probably already know that bottles containing personal hygiene items have specific size requirements. They must also be inside clear plastic bags for easy identification. You can either buy little bottles and fill them with your favorite toiletries yourself, or purchase sample size bottles. Local drug or grocery stores and large variety stores will carry exactly what you need for reasonable prices.

Any medication you need can be taken with you when you board the plane. Placing them in a plastic bag may expedite the process, but that is not required. Frequent fliers will tell you that you should keep medicine with you and not packed in checked baggage. The x-ray machines currently in use by airport security should not affect your medications in any way. If you have concerns though, it is permissible to ask a security guard to check the items instead of scanning them.

No one has been allowed to actually smoke on a plane in many years, but many are unsure whether or not e cigarettes are allowed. Security has no problem with you packing them in any baggage that you check. Whether or not you can use one during the flight is probably up to the specific airline. You should check with them before you arrive if you have questions.

It should go without saying that you are not allowed to bring a weapon on the plane with you, but people try to do it all of the time. Every year the TSA confiscates thousand of banned items, and individuals still attempt to get them past security. This is illegal, and can end up costing you thousands of dollars in fines and possible prison time.

Everyone wants to get where they are going as safely and as quickly as possible. You can do your part by following the rules and regulations that the TSA enforces.
