An Overview Of Pecan Season Georgia

By Henry Harris

When the temperature falls and it becomes warm than it normally is the shucks normally open even before the nut shell has turned brown. This normally happens mostly in late September and will go on until November the time for thanksgiving. Pecan season Georgia is usually passed down from one generation to the next throughout the years.

The process is taken to last for three months and is basically about shaking them to fall off then sweep and collect them into a wagon and head to the plant where the cleaning is done and once they are roasted and salted they can be put in market for sale.

When a nut clings on to a tree the entire winter season it is good to eat since it will not affect your health but then the quality will be very poor since the birds and squirrels will have eaten some of the nuts. This plant does not basically drop the nuts readily compared to other trees, but once they do they will lose the quality. It is also a huge task to harvest and people just collect those that dropped or knock down them down using a long pole.

If the nut is given proper care during planting, fertilization, watering and harvesting the outcome will be really great and bumper harvest is expected. Harvesting should always commence after he tree is mature. During the fall season there should be furnace using fireplaces, have cautions that have space heaters and even changing the batteries of the smoke alarm regularly.

Usually the nuts are inside thick shucks that are green in color that break open and let out the nuts once they have reached the level of maturity. At times when the temperatures become abnormally warm then the shells may split and this may not be the time when the nuts inside are ready for harvesting. This situation is not encouraging because you have to let them reach their final stage while still on the tree.

To enable the tree to get through this transition a lot of input is expected and this point we are talking about irrigation. The trees should be irrigated all through the mid of august to the mid of the following month and if the crop is early then there should be a withdrawal when the rains come for a couple of days and the use of fungicides should be coming to an end.

Unlike most of the trees that hold their fruits when they have already matured, pecan trees tend to have them drop and therefore they have to be collected as soon as they fall because if left on the ground there are lots of threats involved. If for instance the ground is moist then the quantity will decline and at the same time they could be destroyed by mold and insects.

At this stage a lot of attention is given to the trees because they have to be managed by eliminating any stressful circumstances such as the attack from pests because aphids and mites are a threat and would mess up the harvest.
