The Main Uses Of The ROWPU 3000 Water Treatment Unit

By Michelle Cook

The reverse osmosis or the RO technology is mainly used for purification. An RO has a semi permeable membrane that removes the larger particles, molecules, and ions from a drinking waters. It also has pressure being applied to overcome an osmotic pressure, a colligative property handled by the chemical differences from the solvent.

Reverse osmosis is also used in most industrial processes and as well as in producing potable water. And as a result, the solute will be retained on the membrane side which is pressurized and the solvent will pass to the other side. The membrane only allows the smaller components to pass, such as the solvent molecules. The main use of reverse osmosis purification unit or ROWPU 3000 water treatment unit is for the military use.

There are many drinking purification systems today which are widely used and reverse osmosis is considered one of the steps used. Some steps used are sediment filters, activated carbon filters, second sediment filters, second carbon filters, and the ultraviolet lamp. Separating the pure waters from the brackish waters is one important application of osmosis.

The membranes that are utilized in osmosis are containing dense layers in its polymer matrix where the separation occurs. Membranes are mostly designed only for allowing the water to pass through the dense layers and not allowing the solutes to pass like the ions. This process of osmosis is known for its desalination or the separation of salt from seawaters, thus, producing fresh waters.

The 3000 gallons of ROWPU is being used by armies as a water purifier. This type may treat any contamination, or it may be brackish or fresh. This system is placed inside an ISO container with a size of 8 x 8 x 20 feet and is mounted on a 30 feet military trailer. Its power source is mounted at the rear part of the trailer with a 60 kilowatts generator.

The system was produced for the purification of that 3000 gallons inside a seventy seven degree Fahrenheit in one hour. Turbidity is one of the elements that affects the production rate. The system is also capable of removing any concentration from chemicals and agents, and as well as the radioactive product origin that may possibly be hazardous.

The ways on the treatment process are the following. First, raw systems draw water from its source through course screens. Raw pumps are then filled with it and is turned on, and it pulls the air from suction hoses and it also pulls the water up from pumps. So to pull it up quickly, a hand operated prime may be used.

For the initial priming, use a can or a hand pump. For faster lifting, use hand pumps because it only takes 3 minutes to finish, or choosing not to use will take 8 minutes to finish lifting. After priming the pump, the check valves and the suctions help in its prevention of running reversely down to the sources.

The pressure of the raw pump will then deliver it to the separators wherein it will be swirled in high speed to be able to throw the dirt and sand outside through waste hoses. When it passes in the separators, it is delivered to the ROWPU van where the booster pump suction feeds the pressurized water to infiltration components.
