Guidelines For Constructing A Wells Maine Concrete Foundation

By George Smith

Building a slab does not necessarily have to involve a builder. You can handle this task as long as you have enough time and the right tools needed for this process. Even so, you should be certain of what you are doing to ensure that the understructure is stable enough. Below are a few guidelines for constructing a Wells Maine concrete foundation.

Know the kind of footing to make. Different aspects determine the type of footing that one should make. Construction sites which have loose soil and are hilly require a deep foundation. Those at a level ground and have hard surface require shallow foundations

Develop a budget. It is much easier to make a budget if you know the type of footing to make. Make sure that your budget includes all the basic elements to be considered in the project. These aspects include necessary materials and tools. You might also include capital to hire a professional if you find it hard to handle the task alone.

Dig up the area you intend to set up the slab. Hire an excavator to handle the digging process and to ensure that it is done within a short period. Ensure that the hole has a width which is three times that of the slab. Such considerations are made to allow enough clearance which you can use while pouring the mixture. Compress the soil with a compactor and add gravel or sand inside it to enhance its drainage.

Lay a barrier and the frames. Barriers are necessary for a concrete understructure since they prevent moisture from sipping through the footing. The barrier is made using mesh and polythene paper. The polythene paper is also important since it reduces the possibility of radon sipping through the floor. The frames should be built along the area in which the slab will be made. Use straight wood to make sure that the slab is even.

Mix and pour the entire slab. You should consider using a mixer to mix concrete to use less time and ensure that it is done accordingly. Place the mixture close to the framing to reduce the time and energy used while carrying the concrete around. Pour the mixture using a wheelbarrow or shovel depending on the choice which seems to be convenient. After that, level your slab using a trowel.

Finish this process using the right practices. Leave the entire slab for quite some time to ensure that it dries off. The frames can be removed after twenty-four hours depending on the type of cement you have used. You are supposed to wet the slab daily or thrice depending on the level of heat in the atmosphere. Use a polythene paper to cover the surface if there are heavy rains in your area. Such considerations are made to prevent depression in the slab making it appear uneven.

Hire a professional. Homeowners who cannot handle this procedure should hire an expert. Builders have a better understanding of the project and can achieve remarkable outcomes more than you can. Make sure that your ideal professional is experienced and has the right items needed for this project.
